European Commission to cut IT spend following audit

Following the findings of the audit the Vice President of the EC Maros Sefcovic proposed a cost cutting exercise and centralisation similar to that currently being undertaken by the UK Government in Whitehall.  There is certainly scope for significant cost savings. At the moment the European Commission has 2,000 Information systems, 12 business areas, 450 systems supporting policy procedures in 23 directorates, employs 3,800 staff and has 119 systems in place to manage grant funding.
