The survey revealved that:
- 26% of the 1,000 polled had stolen customer data
- 25% had removed HR records
- 25% had taken marketing data
- 10% had lifted redundancy lists
- 23% used USB memory sticks to take the information, 23% used laptop computers, 13% used mobile phones
The Chief Technology Officer at Imperva, Amichai Shulman, said that \”That employees steal data is nothing new, but it is surprising to see the number of people who think they are entitled to do so. By creating policies that staff adhere to businesses can ensure that everyone knows where they stand and what is expected of them\”.
Recently Gartner, the Information Technology research and advisory firm, said that 20% of employees will be using social networks to communicate by 2014, rather than via traditional structured email systems. The firm predicted that new business focused social networks and more advanced information sharing between traditional business email systems and social networking will drive the change. However businesses will need to become more comfortable with social networking tools in order for greater collaboration and efficiency to be achieved. Social networking tools offer those workers planning to take key information from businesses with an easy way to left important contacts in particular.
