There are three main contracts in place relating to the Identity Card system; one with CSC valued at £385 million, one with IBM for £265 million and one with Thales for £18 million. The only contract to be cut altogether will be the Thales contract which relates to the launch of Identity Cards nationwide, however it is believed that the Government will have to pay for breaking the contract. The other two contracts will remain in place largely unaffected.
A spokesperson for the Home Office said that “The cancellation of Identity Cards will have a limited impact on the contract with IBM, as much of the capability it delivers is required for IPS (passport) and UKBA use. The majority of the contract will remain in place to build and operate the Asylum Fingerprint System replacement.”
