On August 3rd Immigration crime team officers from the agency, supported by West Midlands and Warwickshire Police officers, paid another visit ,two Chinese women were encountered. Officers informed the women that they were going to be using evidence gathered at the scene to apply for a closure order via the courts. The women denied working as prostitutes stating that they were on holiday. They left the property of their own accord. Officers secured the property before leaving. The brothel closure order denies entry to the property to anyone other than the leaseholder for an initial three months. Access even for the leaseholder is only granted by prior arrangement with the UK Border Agency or the police. On 12 August Nuneaton Magistrates\’ Court granted the closure order in accordance with the Sexual Offences Act 2003. Cindy Stephenson, from the UK Border Agency\’s immigration crime team, said: \”We know the negative impact establishments like this have on local communities and are committed to shutting them down and catching the organised gangs that profit from prostitution. These closure order powers allow us to shut down brothels and to keep them closed, providing local people with a lasting solution to the problem.\” Immigration checks on the two Chinese woman encountered on 3 August showed that both had the right to remain in the UK.
