The Vice President of Business Operations for Monster Europe, Alan Townsend, went on to say that “We\’re continuing to see a positive trend in online recruitment activity in the long term, with the rate of growth in industrial activity remaining a key driver of this, especially in Germany. While the continued cuts in government spending across public sectors are having an impact of recruitment in these sectors, the various indicators of growth within the private sector continue to show positive momentum.\”
Enterprise Zones
Last week at the Conservative Party Conference the Chancellor, George Osborne, announced a £100 million job initiative centred around ten new Enterprise Zones. The Government will be hoping that the new policies will spur job creation particularly in the northern and western parts of the country. However, according to research by the Work Foundation investment must be made in infrastructure in order to drive the Enterprise Zones, something which may be difficult in the current economic climate. The Work Foundation said that the old Isle of Dogs Enterprise Zone (now known as Canary Wharf) had only 7,000 people employed in the area at the expiry of the zone compared with 90,000 today. The key to success it says is investment in infrastructures and not the enterprise zones themselves.
