Before you can apply for Naturalisation as a British Citizen you first need to pass a ‘Knowledge of Language and Life in the UK’ test. Only on passing the test and gaining a Certificate of approval can you apply for British Citizenship.
This guide is designed for skilled professionals therefore it is assumed that applicants already speak English to the satisfactory level. Please note that if you are a Non EEA National and you possess an IELTS to a qualifying level for Tier 2 General you will meet the Knowledge of Language requirement. In this case you will simply need to pass the Life in the UK Test.
