Windows 8 presents a radical revamp for the company in its attempt to target the tablet buying market as well as serve its network of traditional PC users. Windows’ president Steven Sinofsky has said that the ‘release preview’ would be the closest yet to the final version.
Although Microsoft have not officially stated when this version will be released, most observers have pointed to an October release.
The Windows operating system is Microsoft’s most profitable feature with Windows 8 being the company’s bid to stay relevant within the tablet and smartphone era.
Offering a colourful Metro interface, Windows 8 is certainly a dramatic change taking the smartphone user experience and scaling it to PC level. Simply logging into your email and social networking accounts and the systems taps straight into your digital life. Much of the Windows 8 computing will focus on downloadable ‘apps’ like Apple’s ‘iPad’ and Google’s android phone.
The current Windows 8 test versions are still experiencing several ‘bug’ issues and the app store is looking somewhat bare.
After the launch, consumers will have to decide whether the new Windows works for them.
