Tier 5 Creative and Sporting Visas

The Creating and Sporting subcategory of Tier 5 is designed for people who are coming to work in the UK as sportspeople, entertainers or creative artists for a maximum period of 12 months. 

Please note that you cannot apply as a sportsperson unless you are internationally established at the highest level in your sport. Your employment must also make a ‘significant contribution to the development and running of sport at the highest level in the UK’.

Points Requirement

To qualify for a Tier 5 Creative and Sporting visa you must score 40 points for by passing the Certificate of Sponsorship and Maintenance Requirements.

Certificates of Sponsorship (Maximum 30 Points)

To apply for a Tier 5 Visa you must have been issued with a Certificate of Sponsorship from a licensed organisation.

Creative Worker Certificate of Sponsorship For those working in the dance, theatre, film or television industries. The sponsor must confirm on the Certificate of Sponsorship that you:

  • Want to come to the UK to work or perform in the relevant sector, AND
  • Are not planning on setting up a business in the UK, AND
  • Pose no threat to the resident labour market, AND
  • Will comply with the conditions of your permission to stay
30 Points
Sportsperson Certificate of Sponsorship The sponsor must have received an endorsement from an appropriate governing body before they can issue the CoS to confirm that:

  • You are internationally established at the highest level, AND
  • Your employment will make a significant contribution to the development and running of your sport at the highest level in the UK, AND
  • The job could not be filled by a suitably settled worker

Maintenance Requirement (Maximum 10 Points)

There are two ways to satisfy the mandatory Maintenance requirement detailed below.

An ‘A-Rated’ Tier 2 Licensed Sponsor is confirming on the Certificate of Sponsorship that it will maintain and accommodate you until the end of you first month of employment where required 10

Please note that if you are applying on the basis of bank statements the balance cannot drop even £1 below the minimum threshold in the qualification period otherwise the application will be refused.
