To be eligible for a British Passport you MUST have British Nationality. If you are a highly skilled professional on a Tier 2 General visa you can apply for Permanent Residence in the UK after 5 years on Tier 2 General and then British Nationality after a further 1 year on Permanent Residence status.

A British Passport will allow you not only to work freely in the UK but also throughout the European Economic Area (EEA). This means that if you are a highly skilled IT, Engineering, Medical or Financial Services professional holding a UK passport will not only open up the UK jobs market but also the rest of the EEA.

Gaining British Citizenship

In order to apply for British Citizenship you will need to complete ‘Form AN’ with the UK Border Agency and show supporting documents in respect of the application to prove that you qualify.

Duel Nationality Concerns

If you are planning on applying for UK Citizenship and then a UK Passport please be aware that you may end up loosing your existing Nationality.
