Funding for the MARS scheme has come from the £1.7 Billion pot put aside by the Government in June to cover the cost of hospital redundancies and reconfigurations.
Earlier in the year the Health Secretary outlined radical Government plans to reform the National Health Service and move from a top down system to a bottom up system. Under the proposals all 152 Primary Care Trusts and 10 Strategic Health Authorities will be scrapped in order to remove a ‘layer of bureaucracy’.
