After Entry Applications to vary Leave to Remain:
The after entry application statistics relate to people who either extend or vary their Leave to Remain while in the UK.
Key Findings for Quarter 4 2009:
- Applications to vary conditions of leave (excluding dependents) decreased by 6% to 82,660
- 81% of total decisions were grants of extension
- 19% of total decisions were refusals
- 10% reduction in grants of extension for leave to remain applications related to study
- 33% reduction in grants of extension related to employment
- 53,585 grants of ‘in country’ extension of leave to remain in Q4 2009
Key Findings for 2009:
- 4% increase in the number of decisions on applications to vary conditions of leave (excluding dependents)
- 1% decrease in grants of extensions to leave to remain relating to study
- 12% decrease in employment related grants of extension of leave to remain
- 138,820 grants of ‘in country’ extensions of leave to remain
Settlement Decisions (Permanent Residence):
The Settlement Decision Statistics relate to persons who are the subject of immigration control and who are allowed to remain in the UK indefinitely.
Key Findings for Quarter 4 2009:
- 50% increase in number of decisions on applications for settlement in the UK (excluding EEA and Swiss Nationals)
- 93% of total applications were grants
- 7% of total applications were refusals
- 46% increase in the number of persons granted settlement in the UK (51,140 compared with 35,730 in Q4 2008)
- 34% increase in Employment related grants of settlement
- 780 asylum related grants of settlement in Q4 2009 compared with 1,115 in Q4 2008
- 55% increase in family formation and reunion grants of settlement
- Other grants rose by 70%
Key Findings for 2009:
- 30% increase in the number of decisions on applications for settlement (excluding EEA nationals and Swiss Nationals)
- 30% increase in number of persons granted settlement in the UK (192,680 compared with 148,740 in 2008)
- 34% increase in Employment related grants of settlement in 2009
- 20% increase in Asylum related grants of settlement in 2009
- 27% increase in family formation and reunion grants of settlement
